Maybe I will count my Blessings now. They are the Crowd among which my grumblings hide.

The Christ that is Christmas; the Family that has made me and the Family that is of me; the Country that is the ready bounty of liberty; the Dignity that is the labors of my mind and hand; the People who have sacrificed for mine and me; the Wise who instruct me; and the Enterprise that sustains me. Blessings. Counted.

The Memories that I keep. Counted, as acquired. Blessings.

My senses. Blessings, such as they are. Counted.

Home: The pantry, the well, the walls, the warmth, the comfort, the wire, the dog, my socks, my hats, the love, and the longing to be here when I am not. Counted. Here. Blessings.

Thanksgiving at Christmas. This morning. Today. Blessings. Counted. Counting…

Obamacare: Guess We Can’t Keep Our Pharmacist, Either

aca, keep your doctor, keep your health plan, keep your pharmacist, lies, obamacare, ppaca, tyranny

…at least for some drugs… until some further notice…

I don’t know about you all, but my family has a close and enduring and trusting relationship with our pharmacist. It is akin even to the bond we have with our doctors, who likewise we have regular interaction.

Today, when dropping off a routine prescription, our local pharmacist hesitated, saying momentarily, that they may not be able to fill one of them, while internally determining firstly if they had enough left in stock, and secondly the amount of money they’d have to ‘eat’ in the transaction. You see, as yet another consequence of the so-called ‘law’ named Obamacare, the wholesale cost of a wide range of drugs has necessarily skyrocketed.

What this means to our pharmacist of course is that it costs them more to buy the drugs, and in this case, 400% more (in other cases a greater deal more). And since this drug costs them more, they must in turn charge us more for it.

Then here is the deal. Our insurance plan (and the plans of many others), for the time being, and until and if then, some undetermined time, will only reimburse our pharmacist for this drug at the rate they were paying prior to the insane overnight spike in the cost of this drug. As a result, our pharmacist can no longer afford to sell us this drug (taking a loss), and must send us packing, toward the closest big-chain drug store, who might better be able to afford to absorb the loss.

Frankly, I am incensed at this. We Americans were promised that we could keep our health plans, that we could keep our doctors, should the Affordable Care Act become law. For millions of us, and for millions more to come, the promises are proven nothing more than hollow, malicious, manipulative lies. And now, apparently, neither can we keep our pharmacists.

Now I’ve not done research whatever into this situation, having only spoken to our pharmacist, and then taken to my pen in protest, but aside from the obvious and blatant affront to our liberty by the federal government that this represents, this pharmaceutical gouge reeks of backroom deals between fat-assed lobbyist nobles and fat-assed power-hungry politicians. This is tyranny.

We know we are not going to keep our health plans, we know that our health costs are going to be more expensive (my premiums have risen 82% since the PPACA was passed), we know we are not going to keep our doctors, we know we are not going to keep our full-time jobs, and now, we can guess that we can’t keep our pharmacists, either.

We could also say we won’t get to keep our country, if we had not lost that a good time ago.

Elections have consequences, and thanks to you, my family and millions of other families are being harmed, millions more are set to see their harm, and ultimately, so too will you be harmed. And do not for a minute think that obamacare is the end of it.

Which History to Trust: A Dad’s Dilemma

29 Monday Jul 2013

One of our kids is beginning high school this year, and it is my charge to select or construct the curriculum for history in our home school. As well, it is for me to oversee this portion of her education in the coming years.

I do not take this responsibility lightly, which is the reason for this letter, posted both publicly, and privately to people whom I respect.

It is my hope that you might offer some guidance in this endeavor, that my child and I may avoid wasted investments of time, energies, and cash in history books and/or programs whose sole purpose is to manipulate history to dovetail with an anti-American agenda, which to me defines itself as anywhere to the left of our founders, counter to the principled Unanimous Declaration, and at odds with the original intent of our Constitution.

What I’d like to offer my daughter is a solid foundation in honest history, in its proper context; something that she can build upon throughout her life, and that will protect her from being taken in by the spinners and string pullers.

Which history to trust, that’s my dilemma… (getting her interest is a whole ‘nother problem :] )

If you could share your experience with trustworthy sources of American and World History, or your knowledge of any reliable curriculum or structured reading lists, or if you have any other advice to offer (other than sending our kid to public school), we would be grateful in hearing it.

Please comment on the post, or send a note to subconch@gmail.com ~Thanks

Happy Eighteenth, Kid!

birthday, dad, daughter, eighteen, proud

I think this is where I’m supposed to offer up that sagely advice that will carry you through life with happiness and peace and security and dignity. But I’m pretty sure I’ve already done that a time or four.

Besides, it’s not like my wisdom and experience and knowledge and intelligence is expected to go missing when you are eighteen-and-a-day, you know. I mean, you are not going into exile… (are you?)

So rather I’ll use the opportunity of this milestone to say one thing:

Thank You.

For enriching my life beyond measure, for making me a better man, for having the strength to continue so that we might know you, for being you, and for being my daughter, thank you. I am proud to be your Dad.

Happy Eighteenth, Kid! I love you.

Live, and be ready to live.

P.S.  Boys are still bad.

ObamaCare 20,000 Pages – 72% More Complex than All U.S. Law Compiled in First 124 Years!

124 years of US law 5700 pages, comparison, complexity, obamacare 20000 pages, tyranny

Here’s the photo that’s been circulating of the (thus far) printed 20,000 pages of ObamaCare regulations, edited to show this behemoth’s scale in reference to the 1913 “Compiled Statutes of the United States“, which totals only 5,700 pages.

One “law”, ObamaCare, so far is 72% more complex than ALL federal law amassed in our country during its first 124 years! Just think about that for a moment. Ask yourself, “How could ObamaCare possibly work?” Then, considering the massive scope of unconstitutional, unchecked, arbitrary powers in the hands of unknown elitist bureaucrats to control our lives, ask yourself “How could America possibly call herself free?”

This.Is.Tyranny

ObamaCare's 20,000 pages (and growing) compared to 5,700 pages of ALL U.S. law compiled in our first 124 years.

ObamaCare’s 20,000 pages (and growing) compared to 5,700 pages of ALL U.S. law compiled in our first 124 years.

The internal effects of a mutable policy are still more calamitous. It poisons the blessings of liberty itself. It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood: if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes, that no man who knows what the law is to-day, can guess what it will be to-morrow. Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known and less fixed.

~James Madison, Federalist No. 62, par. 16

happy birthday daughter

To my daughter, to my wonderful friend, on your birthday, I am reminded of my appreciation for you, of my respect for you, of my pride in you, of your wisdom beyond your years, of your beautifully independent and individual spirit, and of your treasured wit and laughter;  I am remembering the precision of my prophetic conclusion at the time of your birth, that you would grow to be of the finest among the human variety, such as you have;  I am mindful that there can be no other on earth than you, with whom I could ever find satisfaction in parallel conversations, and be rewarded by such unrelated simultaneous subject matters of discussion;  and I recall with utter clarity your loathing and disdain for the annoyingly long sentence, that it behooves me in honoring that, that I shall close, in the interest of brevity, save further redundant comma delineations, with these simple utterances: I love you, and happy birthday.  ~dad

President George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

Almighty God, george washington, gratitude, humility, proclamation, reverence, thanksgiving, U.S. Constitution

I’m sharing this with you all, with hopes that your families and yourselves, might find the blessings upon which to be grateful to our God, on this Thanksgiving Day.

This writing by our 1st President is intriguing, as it goes to the character, the perspective, the reverence, the very nature of this man, of these men, that founded our great nation.

President George Washington’s 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation was penned at the request of Congress, who resolved that “he would recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging, with grateful hearts, the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a Constitution of government for their safety and happiness.”

Washington’s Thanksgiving Proclamation, which was to be published in papers nationwide, was enclosed in his Circular to the Governors of the States with the note: “I do myself the honor to enclose to your Excellency a Proclamation for a general Thanksgiving which I must request the favor of you to have published and made known in your State in the way and manner that shall be most agreeable to yourself.”

Notes, a brief glossary, and an image follow.

[New York, 3 October 1789]

By the President of the United States of America. a Proclamation.

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor–and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be–That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks–for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation–for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war–for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed–for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted–for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions–to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually–to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed–to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness onto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord–To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us–and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New-York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

Go: Washington

This transcription was found at The Papers of George Washington Site: http://gwpapers.virginia.edu/documents/thanksgiving/transcript.html

Notes:
The Constitution of the United States was ratified on June 21, 1788 when New Hampshire become the ninth State to agree. Rhode Island was the last State to ratify it, on May 29, 1790. The 1st United States Congress met from March 4, 1789 to March 4, 1791, President George Washington, the unanimous choice of the 69 electors in 1788, served in office from April 30, 1789 to March 4, 1797

Brief Glossary from Webster’s 1828 Dictionary:
Given for a timely context of language used. Very interesting! Listed in the order found in the proclamation.

thanksgiving: n. The act of rendering thanks or expressing gratitude for favors or mercies.
“Every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if received with thanksgiving.” 1 Tim.4.
1. A public celebration of divine goodness; also, a day set apart for religious services, specially to acknowledge the goodness of God, either in any remarkable deliverance from calamities or danger, or in the ordinary dispensation of his bounties. The practice of appointing an annual thanksgiving originated in New England.

providence: 3. In theology, the care and superintendence which God exercises over his creatures. He that acknowledges a creation and denies a providence, involves himself in a palpable contradiction; for the same power which caused a thing to exist is necessary to continue its existence. Some persons admit a general providence, but deny a particular providence, not considering that a general providence consists of particulars. A belief in divine providence, is a source of great consolation to good men. By divine providence is often understood God himself.

benefit: 1. An act of kindness; a favor conferred.
Bless the Lord,O my soul, and forget not all his benefits. Ps.103.

implore: 1. To call upon or for,in supplication; to beseech; to pray earnestly; to petition with urgency; to entreat; as, to implore the forgiveness of sins; to implore mercy.

happiness: The agreeable sensations which spring from the enjoyment of good; that state of a being in which his desires are gratified, by the enjoyment of pleasure without pain; felicity; but happiness usually expresses less than felicity, and felicity less than bliss. Happiness is comparative. To a person distressed with pain, relief from that pain affords happiness; in other cases we give the name happiness to positive pleasure or an excitement of agreeable sensations. Happiness therefore admits of indefinite degrees of increase in enjoyment, or gratification of desires. Perfect happiness, or pleasure unalloyed with pain, is not attainable in this life.
2. Good luck; good fortune.

beneficent: Doing good; performing acts of kindness and charity. It differs from benign (kind), as the act from the disposition; beneficence being benignity or kindness exerted in action.

signal: Eminent; remarkable; memorable; distinguished from what is ordinary; as a signal exploit; a signal service; a signal ace of benevolence. It is generally but not always used in a good sense.

manifold: [many and fold.] Of divers kinds; many in number; numerous; multiplied. O Lord, how manifold are thy works! Ps.104. I know your manifold transgressions. Amos.5.
1. Exhibited or appearing at divers times or in various ways; applied to words in the singular number; as the manifold wisdom of God, or his manifold grace. Eph.3. 1 Pet.4.

interposition: 2. Intervenient agency; as the interposition of the magistrate in quieting sedition. How many evidences have we of divine interposition in favor of good men!

supplication: 1. Entreaty; humble and earnest prayer in worship. In all our supplications to the Father of mercies, let us remember a world lying in ignorance and wickedness.

transgression: The act of passing over or beyond any law or rule of moral duty; the violation of a law or known principle of rectitude; breach of command.

concord: 1. Agreement between persons; union in opinions, sentiments, views or interests; peace; harmony.

temporal: 1. Pertaining to this life or this world or the body only; secular; as temporal concerns; temporal affairs. In this sense, it is opposed to spiritual. Let not temporal affairs or employments divert the mind from spiritual concerns, which are far more important. In this sense also it is opposed to ecclesiastical; as temporal power, that is, secular, civil or political power; temporal courts, those which take cognizance of civil suits. Temporal jurisdiction is that which regards civil and political affairs.
2. Measured or limited by time, or by this life or this state of things; having limited existence; opposed to eternal.
The things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2 Cor.4.

The Unconstitutional and Immoral Welfare State

30 Thursday Aug 2012

God, responsibility, Rights, role of government, safety net, U.S. Constitution, welfare

Is it unconstitutional and immoral for the government to steal from some people in order to give to undeserving lazy others, or anybody, while pitting Americans against each other? Of course, it’s evil theft for the sake of power. And what IS the government supposed to really DO, anyway?

In her latest paper entitled “God-Given Rights, Man-Made Anti-Rights, and Why ‘Safety Nets’ are Immoral”, Publius Huldah makes the case in context with the U.S. Constitution, and other sources, and as is her usual M.O., the study is well outlined, referenced, and footnoted.

It is the dogma of our time that proponents of government safety net programs hold the moral high ground. Accordingly, Democrats preen over their own “compassion”; and Republicans chime in that they too “believe in safety net programs”.

But safety net programs are unconstitutional and immoral.  They are unconstitutional because “charity” is not one of the enumerated powers of the federal government.

They are immoral because they are based on a fabricated system of man-made anti-rights which negate the Rights God gave us.

I recommend you read and share.
As well as the discussion at hand, this paper also provides a great and easy to understand overview of our Constitution, and the following section headings:

  • The Origin of Rights and the Purpose of Civil Government
  • Political Power is from The People!
  • Federalism & Enumerated Powers
  • How the federal & State Governments are to go about Securing our God-given Rights
  • What Happened?
  • A Government which Provides to Some, must Take from Others
  • Living in a Cocoon?  Or as Free and Independent Manly Men and Womanly Women?
  • The Progressives and the Regulatory Federal Government
  • Man-made “Anti-rights”
